Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located numerous other marked vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably human blood.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; authorities are not yet aware of any physical harm in association with the event," they stated.
City officials said they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the residents for details.
An important official commented the incident rendered him speechless and required to be solved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, referring to the death of nine people by a gunman aiming at residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
